Inter Milan vs Barcelona: Champions League semifinal second leg preview

The UEFA Champions League semifinal second leg between Inter Milan and Barcelona promises high drama at the San Siro on Tuesday night.

With the tie finely poised after a thrilling 3-3 draw in the first leg, both sides are eyeing a place in the final and a shot at European glory.

First Leg Recap:
The opening encounter at the Barcelona Olympic Stadium was a six-goal spectacle. Inter surged ahead with goals from Marcus Thuram and Denzel Dumfries, but Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal pulled one back with a record-breaking strike, becoming the youngest scorer in a Champions League semifinal at 17 years and 291 days.

Ferran Torres equalized for Barcelona, only for Dumfries to restore Inter’s lead. A Yann Sommer own goal, however, left the tie level and set up a tantalising return leg.

Spotlight on Lamine Yamal:
Yamal’s performance has drawn widespread acclaim, with Inter manager Simone Inzaghi describing him as a “once in 50 years” talent.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick lauded him as “a genius,” while Yamal himself has downplayed comparisons to Lionel Messi, stating, “I don’t compare myself to anyone – and much less with Messi. I’m going to enjoy myself, and be myself.”

Team News:
Barcelona will be without defender Jules Kounde due to a hamstring injury, but could be boosted by the return of striker Robert Lewandowski, who has made a quicker-than-expected recovery from a leg injury. Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is tipped to start, despite Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s recent return.

Inter Milan face uncertainty over the fitness of top scorer Lautaro Martinez, who suffered a leg injury in the first leg. Mehdi Taremi or Marko Arnautovic could deputize if Martinez is unavailable.

What’s at Stake:
Barcelona are chasing a rare treble, having already secured LaLiga and reached the Copa del Rey final. Inter, meanwhile, are aiming for their second Champions League final in three seasons and will look to leverage home advantage.

Kickoff:
The match kicks off Tuesday night at the San Siro, with both teams knowing that only a win will guarantee passage to the final. With attacking talent on both sides and the tie delicately balanced, fans can expect another Champions League classic.
