Officers from Kenya’s National Police Service (NPS) participating in the INTERPOL Project Soteria Instructor Development Course engaged in a team-building exercise today, May 3, 2025, at Hell’s Gate National Park in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
The event brought together trainees from the Kenya Police Service (KPS), Administration Police Service (APS), and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), all of whom are undergoing specialized training designed to enhance their instructional skills and INTERPOL policing capabilities.
The course, which commenced on April 28, 2025, aims to develop a cadre of trainers who will subsequently cascade the acquired knowledge and skills to fellow officers across the country.
By integrating INTERPOL’s global standards and best practices, the initiative seeks to strengthen Kenya’s capacity to address transnational crime and security threats in collaboration with international partners.
The team-building day at Hell’s Gate National Park provided a unique opportunity for officers to foster teamwork, a core value emphasized by INTERPOL alongside respect, integrity, excellence, and innovation.
Activities included exploring the park’s iconic landmarks-such as Fischer’s Tower, Central Tower, and Hell’s Gate Gorge-while enhancing physical fitness, endurance, and mental well-being.
The exercise was also intended to support the personal development of participants, reinforcing the importance of unity and cooperation in effective policing.
In addition to physical activities, officers visited the Maasai Cultural Centre within the park, where they learned about Maa culture and traditions.
This element of the program aligns with INTERPOL’s commitment to raising awareness about the protection of cultural heritage and encouraging law enforcement and communities to report threats to cultural property.
The NPS reiterated its commitment to strengthening partnerships with regional and international law enforcement agencies, including INTERPOL, to collectively address evolving security challenges. Project Soteria, a joint initiative between INTERPOL and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, is part of ongoing efforts to improve detection, reporting, and response mechanisms for transnational crime and terrorism.
As the Instructor Development Course continues, the skills and values instilled through both classroom and field activities are expected to have a lasting impact on the effectiveness and resilience of Kenya’s law enforcement community.
