In a heartwarming display of corporate social responsibility, the THX22 Foundation, the Pan-African charitable arm of 22Bet Africa, has stepped up to provide a vital lifeline for learners at Waithaka Special School. Through a collaborative effort with the Order of Malta, the foundation has announced a generous donation of KES 1.4 million aimed at supporting underserved students.
This contribution comes at a time of significant need for the institution, which serves 155 learners navigating various intellectual and developmental challenges, including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and ADHD. For many families in the community, the cost of specialized education is an overwhelming burden. This funding is set to directly alleviate that pressure by covering school fees and essential educational needs, ensuring that these vulnerable children can stay in the classroom where they belong.
The initiative addresses a global crisis in inclusive education. According to UNICEF, children with disabilities are 42% less likely to develop foundational literacy and numeracy skills compared to their peers. They often find themselves at the margins, with limited access to the protective services and healthcare they require. By intervening at the grassroots level, this partnership seeks to rewrite that narrative for the children of Waithaka.
Paolo Abenavoli, Head of Projects at THX22 Foundation, noted that education is not merely a right but a “lifeline” for these students. The donation ensures that the school can continue providing the specialized care these children deserve. Principal Jane K. Kangethe expressed deep gratitude, noting that the funds arrive at a “critical moment” as the school’s needs continue to grow alongside its student population.
By aligning with their core pillar of education, the THX22 Foundation continues to spearhead investments that promote dignity and inclusion. This partnership with the Order of Malta not only highlights a commitment to transparency but also serves as a beacon of hope for families who often feel unheard.
