The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has acknowledged a video circulating on social media that allegedly shows police officers assaulting a group of young men who were playing pool in Nandi Hills, Nandi County, on the night of January 10, 2026.
The video, timestamped at approximately 11:50 PM, appears to show several police officers entering the room where the young men were playing and subsequently subjecting them to physical assault.
In response to these allegations, IPOA says it deployed a Rapid Investigations Team to the scene on Friday, January 16 morning to conduct thorough inquiries.
The team’s mandate is to establish the sequence of events, assess the conduct of the officers involved, and determine any culpability in accordance with IPOA’s authority.
The Authority has so far confirmed that the incident occurred on January 10, 2026, within Nandi Hills Town and affected other establishments including bars and hotels. Additionally, several victims and witnesses have been identified and contacted.
IPOA has further condemned any use of unnecessary and unwarranted force in policing, calling for calm as it undertakes its investigations.
The Authority has also reaffirmed its commitment to impartial inquiries and the promotion of accountability and professionalism within the National Police Service.
According to the Authority, no complaint had been lodged regarding the incident prior to the video being posted online.
IPOA is, therefore, calling upon members of the public to make formal complaints whenever such incidents occur, emphasising the importance of official reporting channels in addressing police misconduct.
