The legacy of motorsports runs deep in Kenya, and few families embody this tradition more than the Lotas.
Rising tarmac star Javed Lota is quickly proving that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, following in the tyre tracks of his father, multiple Coast Rally Champion Naushad Kara Lota.
At just 25, Javed is on the cusp of a major breakthrough, cementing his status as a formidable force in the Kenyan tarmac series.
Over the weekend, Javed showcased his prowess at Whistling Morans, clinching his third consecutive victory in the 2025 National Tarmac series.
Behind the wheel of a Subaru, a car brand with a rich history in the Lota family, he also secured the fastest time of the day. “We did it again,” a thrilled Javed stated, his focus already on the final round.
“Whistling Morans was a great occasion where I secured my third win of the year and the fastest time of the day to boot.”
Javed credits his success to the invaluable knowledge passed down from his father, which he describes as a significant advantage.
He notes that this generational expertise has been critical in mastering driving techniques, preparing for events, and understanding the intricate mechanics of his car.
However, he also admits to the pressure that comes with a famous surname. “The pressure is immense because the first generation looks up to you, and they want the results, so you have to always try your best,” he explained.
While his father excelled on gravel, Javed has found his calling on the asphalt, describing tarmac racing as a “precision drive.” With his younger brother Zuhair also entering the rallying world, the Lota dynasty is set to continue its high-speed tradition, promising an exciting future for Kenyan motorsports.
