The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has ruled out foul play in the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament, Cyrus Jirongo, concluding that his demise on the night of 13th December 2025 resulted from a normal road traffic accident.
In its final investigation report, the DCI says it conducted extensive inquiries through a multidisciplinary team comprising homicide detectives, officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, and forensic experts from the National Forensic Laboratory.
The team concluded that there was no evidence to support claims of criminal involvement in Jirongo’s death.
According to the report, investigators visited and processed the accident scene at Karai area along the Nakuru–Nairobi Highway, where they secured and preserved key exhibits, documented physical evidence, and recovered CCTV footage from Eagol Petrol Station for detailed review and analysis.

The DCI further states that the bus manifest, as well as amateur videos captured at the scene, were obtained and subjected to forensic examination.
As part of the probe, statements were recorded from several key witnesses, including the deceased’s wife, Mrs. Ann Lanoi Pertet, who was the first family member contacted after the incident.
Other witnesses included the driver of the ill-fated Climax Coach bus, Mr. Tiras Kamau Githinji; the bus conductor, Mr. Manoah Ekokwa Alukoya Olasi; and staff members from Eagol Petrol Station.
The update report also notes that the Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Moses Wetang’ula, Oasis Restaurant owner Mr. Rebman Malala, and Mr. Ibrahim Sambuli—who interacted with the deceased at Karen Oasis Restaurant on the evening of December 12, 2025—voluntarily presented themselves to investigators and recorded statements detailing their last encounters with Jirongo.

Seven passengers who were aboard the Climax Coach bus also came forward to assist with the investigation, and their statements were recorded.
This addresses public speculation by some of Jirongo’s friends and family, who had questioned whether the bus was carrying passengers, arguing that any witnesses would have spoken out.
According to the DCI, the passengers were later transferred to a rescue bus, registration number KCU 573A, driven by Mr. Julius Kiprotich Chelule, who also recorded a statement with investigators.
Based on the totality of evidence gathered, the DCI says it found no basis to suspect foul play, contrary to claims made by several leaders and members of the public.
Among the questions raised by family and close friends, following his death is how Jirongo left Karen and ended up on the Nakuru Highway at such a late hour whose answer many still await.
The DCI has now forwarded the investigation file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for further directions, with the possibility of criminal charges being preferred against the Climax Coach bus driver, Mr. Tiras Githinji.
