A journalist working with The People Daily in Homa Bay County is nursing injuries after he was assaulted and later kidnapped by individuals he claims to know.
Habil Onyango, the reporter, said he was tricked by a friend and taken to a hotel in town, where he was confronted by some two men.
The attackers accused him of publishing a story that linked a county employee to bribery allegations and irregular recruitment practices.
Speaking to fellow journalists in Homa Bay after receiving treatment, Onyango recounted how the ordeal left him fearing for his life but determined not to be silenced.
The Homa Bay Journalists Association, led by Philip Osewe strongly condemned the incident, urging security agencies to take swift action to safeguard press freedom and protect media practitioners in the county.
