JSC appoints new deputy chairperson and members to Sports Disputes Tribunal

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has named new officials to the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT), formalizing the appointments through Kenya Gazette Notices No. 15207 and 15208 issued on Monday, October 27, 2025.

According to the gazette, Allan Mola Owinyi has been appointed as the Deputy Chairperson of the Tribunal. His term will begin on October 7, 2025, and continue until May 16, 2030.

The JSC also confirmed the appointment of Eddie Omondi, Victor Obwaya Omwebu, Aleli Peris Mukoko, Nicodemus Kimanthi Musau, and Luke Wamugunda Irungu as members of the Tribunal. Their five-year tenure will take effect from September 15, 2025.

The appointments were made in line with the provisions of the Sports Act (Cap. 223) and signed by Chief Justice Martha K. Koome, who also chairs the JSC.

These changes come as part of the ongoing restructuring of the Sports Disputes Tribunal following the departure of long-serving chairperson Senior Counsel John Ohaga, whose decade-long leadership concluded in November 2024.

After Ohaga’s exit, Jane Njeri Onyango briefly held the position in an acting capacity before advocate Benard Murunga Wafula was named as the new substantive chairperson earlier this year.

The reconstituted Tribunal is expected to continue its central role in addressing conflicts and governance issues involving athletes, clubs, agents, and sports organizations across Kenya.
