Juja MP George Koimburi charged in Ksh10 million fraud case

Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has been charged in Nairobi with fraud in connection to a Ksh10 million land deal.

The MP appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Robinson Ondieki where he faced four counts, including conspiracy to defraud, forgery, obtaining land registration by false pretences, and uttering false documents.

The court heard that on or before March 2020, Koimburi and others not before court allegedly conspired to defraud Julius Gitonga of a 1.3-hectare parcel of land in Ruiru valued at Sh10 million.

The legislator denied all the charges.

His lawyers pleaded for a free bond, saying he was not a flight risk and risked losing his parliamentary seat if absent from eight consecutive sittings.

The defence also told the court the MP had settled with the complainant and had since asked the DPP to review the case.

The magistrate released him on a cash bail of Sh100,000.

Koimburi’s co-accused, Shelmith Karungiri, is already out on similar bail terms, while another suspect, lawyer Gathii Irungu, is out of the country and yet to take plea.

The matter will be mentioned on October 22 for pre-trial.
