Kabras RFC’s Carlos Katywa named SJAK Coach of the month

Kabras RFC head coach Carlos Katywa has been crowned the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Coach of the Month for April.

The announcement was made on Wednesday morning. Katywa earned the prestigious honor after guiding Kabras RFC to their fourth consecutive Kenya Cup title, edging out Menengai Oilers 27-26 in a thrilling final held at the Kakamega Showground. His triumph sees him rewarded with Kshs. 100,000 and a trophy.

Since taking over as head coach, Katywa has maintained an impressive 100% win record across 39 matches, cementing his reputation as one of Kenya’s top rugby tacticians.

Remarkably, just two weeks after lifting the Kenya Cup and despite Katywa’s absence due to national team duties with the Kenya U20 side Kabras RFC successfully defended their Enterprise Cup title for the fifth successive year.

In the SJAK Coach of the Month rankings, Kakamega Homeboyz FC head coach Francis Baraza finished second, while Shabana FC’s Peter Okidi took third place.

In the previous month, Katywa came close to winning the SJAK Coach of the Month award, which was awarded to Mildred Cheche, the head coach of the Kenya U20 women’s football team, who was honored for her outstanding achievements in March.
