Kaimosi Friends University in Vihiga County has moved to strengthen safety within its campus and surrounding community after hosting Nyumba Kumi officials and local security leaders in a high-level security engagement forum.
The meeting, chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mwita, brought together grassroots security representatives and government administrators led by the Assistant County Commissioner for Shaviringa Division, Lesooni Reimas. The forum focused on tackling emerging security concerns affecting both students and residents living around the institution.
Prof. Mwita reaffirmed the university’s commitment to community partnership, emphasizing that security is a shared responsibility. He praised Nyumba Kumi officials for their vigilance and pledged continued institutional support to enhance community policing efforts.
In a practical boost to night patrol operations, the university donated torches to Nyumba Kumi officials, a move aimed at improving surveillance and deterring crime within the neighborhood.
The Officer Commanding Station (OCS) at Cheptulu Police Station, Lawi Ng’etich, urged students to remain law-abiding and proactive in reporting suspicious activities. He assured them that security agencies have put in place measures to safeguard both learners and residents.
Assistant County Commissioner Lesooni Reimas called for closer coordination between the university administration and Nyumba Kumi leaders to ensure swift response to security threats.
The engagement highlights a growing push for stronger town-and-gown collaboration, positioning the university and its host community as partners in building a safer, more secure environment for learning and development.
