Kakamega Homeboyz Football Club is in deep mourning following the tragic and untimely death of Silas Abungana, a member of the club family whose passing has left the entire fraternity devastated.
The club has confirmed that Silas passed away a few minutes before midnight on Wednesday, February 4, while receiving treatment at Kakamega County General Hospital.
He had been admitted after sustaining severe head injuries during an attack on the night of Tuesday, February 3.
According to information from the club and hospital sources, Silas was attacked on Tuesday night, February 3, under circumstances that are currently under investigation by police.
He was rushed to Kakamega County General Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition.
Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, Silas succumbed to his injuries late Wednesday night.
In a statement, Kakamega Homeboyz Football Club described Silas as a dedicated, humble, and disciplined individual who embodied the spirit and values of the club.
“Silas was more than a member of our club. He was a brother, a teammate, and a true Homeboyz soldier. His commitment, humility, and passion will forever remain in our hearts. This is a painful loss for the entire Homeboyz family,” the statement read.
The club further noted that Silas was admired by teammates and staff for his positive attitude, hard work, and willingness to support others both on and off the pitch.
Police have launched investigations into the incident that led to Silas’ injuries, as the football community and residents continue to call for justice.
