Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared himself as the best-suited candidate to send President William Ruto home in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Monday June 30, 2025, Kalonzo exuded confidence in his ability to rally the opposition and defeat the Kenya Kwanza leader, William Ruto.
“I am confident we will cross that bridge when the time comes. I have made public my stance on this, and I’m confident we will reach an agreement guided by a very important consideration of our unity,” he stated.
Kalonzo emphasized that national unity will be the guiding principle as opposition leaders engage in talks to field a single presidential candidate.
He noted that he had previously shelved his ambitions for the sake of unity, but this time, he believes the coalition will recognize that his name on the ballot is their best shot at victory.
“I believe it is the aspiration of many that my partners will see that too and decide that if I get the ticket, then Ruto will be a one-term president. I believe if we want Ruto home, I should get the ticket,” he added.
Addressing concerns about his willingness to support another candidate if not chosen as flag bearer, Kalonzo said he remains open to compromise.
“We and Wiper party are now rebranded for this task. We are ready to take the youth’s agenda. We are trying to convince each other with Martha Karua, Gachagua and the team. I won’t say I will not support another if I don’t get the ticket. We should not be creating scenarios. We will try our best, and it is why we are in talks to persuade one another,” he stated.
The Wiper leader also ruled out any renewed alliance with former Azimio partner Raila Odinga, following the ODM leader’s recent cooperation with President Ruto.
He described Raila’s decision as a betrayal of the liberation struggle, recalling the dangers they once faced together.
“People now think I can be persuaded by Raila to join Ruto. They should forget. I am standing my ground with the people,” Kalonzo declared.
He reiterated his long history of support for Raila, having backed him in three consecutive presidential elections.
“We were in Azimio with him and Martha, and I did my part in pushing them. My own supporters came out and helped Raila for a third time even though I was not on the ballot,” he stated.
Kalonzo reflected on a past assassination attempt as an example of the sacrifices he had made in the struggle against the current administration.
“In 2023, I remember a while back in Pipeline we had ten-bullet attempts against us, and we survived. It is why sometimes I feel very bad that you can take that kind of position, and then you suddenly disappear. How can you disappoint such a struggle and spirit?” he said.
