Kalonzo, Gachagua and Uhuru are lightweights to President Ruto – ODM MP

Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo has dismissed calls for ODM to operate outside government, insisting the party remains firmly aligned with President William Ruto’s administration.

Speaking during a thanksgiving gathering in Mutumbu to honor his late parents, Odhiambo criticized the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders who have suggested that the party should stand alone ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He singled out Siaya Governor James Orengo, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, and Deputy Party Leader and Vihiga, Senator Godfrey Osotsi, describing them as the only ODM figures who are still in opposition.

The legislator accused some ODM leaders of attempting to monopolise the party, claiming their political history was “fake.” He further argued that past agreements, such as the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed during theKibaki regime, had failed to benefit ODM.

Odhiambo also expressed confidence that President Ruto would secure a second term, dismissing rivals allied to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as “lightweight.”

Looking ahead, Odhiambo proposed a referendum after the next general election to create new executive positions, including a Prime Minister and two deputy prime ministers, to ensure the country moves together.

He hinted at his own ambitions for higher office, saying he would seek a direct ODM ticket and was capable of serving as deputy leader or chair of the party.
