Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is the most preferred opposition candidate for the 2027 presidential elections, according to the Centre for Africa Progress (CAP) latest opinion poll.
In a report released on July 23, 2025, Kalonzo had 36 percent, followed by former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i (23%), former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua (16%), Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya (14%), Martha Karua (7%), and others 4%.
This was after CAP conducted the survey across all 47 counties between 10th July – 13th July 2025. The sample comprised 5,000 registered voters.
The study adopted random, Multi-stage stratified using PPS (proportionate to population size) selected from all the 47 counties.
Data was collected using telephone interviews and analyzed using SPSS and MS Excel with a margin error of 1.5 percent and a 95% confidence level.
The target population for the poll was 18 years and above who were living and registered as voters in Kenya.
At the same time, the study revealed that 60% of Kenyans believe it was a mistake for Raila Odinga to join the Broad-Based Government while 40% feel it was a good move aimed at promoting national unity.
On whether the country was headed in the right direction, 34% of respondents said the country is headed in the right direction, 44% said the country was headed in the wrong direction while 22% said they were not sure.
When asked about the broad based government, 48% of respondents said President William Ruto should be given time to deliver his promises to the country. At the same time, 50% said they were disappointed with the Kenya Kwanza Government while 2% are not sure.
Regarding the Gen Z protests, 64% said the protests were necessary for economic, political, and social justice now and in future while 36% believe the protests were a distraction from pressing issues such as the economy.
