Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has faced criticism for rejecting the newly appointed Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners.
Speaking in Nyandarua County on Monday May 12, 2025 during the Wezesha Mama, Inua Jamii function organized by Nyandarua County Woman Representative Faith Gitau, over 30 elected women aligned to President William Ruto, termed Kalonzo as a perennial complainant who has no clear vision for the people of Kenya.
The Wezesha Mama initiative is aimed at empowering different women groups and bodaboda saccos in the country.
Led by the host, Woman Representative Faith Gitau, and her counterparts Cynthia Muge from Nandi County, Beatrice Adagala from Vihiga County, and Jerusha Momany from Nyamira County, the elected leaders said that the IEBC selection panel that was mandated to oversee the recruitment process of the commissioners had all it needed to come up with the best team.
“Kalonzo is saying he does not want the new IEBC commissioners, is he interested in becoming the next IEBC chairperson? We want the new commissioners in office to conduct by-elections for Kenyans who are lacking representation at county assemblies and parliament,” said Adagala.
They said that Kenyans have waited for long for the formation of IEBC, and it is hypocritical for Kalonzo who was calling for its reconstitution to be the one rejecting it.
“We have lacked IEBC for the past two years, and the selection panel has taken us through all the processes in choosing the commissioners, yet Kalonzo is arguing that it has not been selected fairly. We are waiting for the names to be tabled in parliament for us to approve,” said Momany.
At the same time, the leaders noted that many constituencies lack representatives; therefore, there is an urgent need for the IEBC to be in place to oversee by-elections in all affected regions.
