Kanyari kids back home: Reunion at airport sparks new custody debate

Two of Kenya’s most talked about celebrity children, Sky Victor and Dani Victor returned to the country after spending several weeks in the United Kingdom with family friends, marking a fresh chapter in an ongoing custody and co-parenting saga involving their father, Pastor Victor Kanyari, and their late mother’s widower, Hiram “Tash” Gitau.

The children touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the early hours of Sunday, January 6, 2026, where both Kanyari and Tash were present to welcome them home.

Videos circulating on social media captured emotional moments: Dani embracing Tash, while Sky ran into Kanyari’s arms as he helped carry bags, a scene many fans interpreted as a moment of calm co-parenting after months of public debate.

Pastor Kanyari captioned his own shared video simply: “Welcome back my kids.” The post quickly drew thousands of supportive reactions, with many Kenyans praising the unity shown at the airport.

The children, who are originally from Kenya, had been in the UK for several weeks on what was described by family friends as a fun, yet productive visit; footage shared online showed them participating in informal YouTube filming and other activities.

Their trip coincided with a widely publicized dispute between Kanyari and Tash over who should care for Sky and Dani following the death of gospel singer Betty Bayo, the children’s late mother.

Tash, who had been helping raise them, became a central figure in the debates among netizens and in court-adjacent social commentary.

In the weeks leading up to the children’s return, Pastor Kanyari had publicly described the relationship with his children as strained, saying they had been hostile toward him since their mother’s passing and that he was seeking a more formal role in parenting.

He also revealed plans to move them into a new home after acquiring a sizeable property in Nairobi, a detail that sparked both support and criticism online.

Social media reactions were mixed: some users celebrated the warmth at the airport reunion and urged mutual respect between the men, while others continued to debate long-term custody arrangements and the wisdom of airing family matters publicly.

With Sky and Dani now back in Kenya, the public spotlight is expected to stay on how Pastor Kanyari and Tash navigate co-parenting.

At the moment, no official legal custody decision has been announced, even as both men appeared together at the airport an image many have interpreted as hopeful.
