Karura Forest transitions to e-Citizen for entry, parking payments

The Kenya Forest Service (KFS) has announced a new payment system for visitors to Karura Forest, aligning with the government’s directive to onboard all public services onto the e-Citizen platform.

Starting Friday, August 29, 2025, payments for gate entry, parking, and related services at Karura Forest, including the Sigiria block, will only be made via the e-Citizen platform using Paybill 222222.

This move follows the National Treasury Circular CAB/ADM.2A/6 Vol.1/(122), which ordered the closure of all non-designated government payment platforms.

According to KFS, the transition is part of a nationwide effort aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the management of public resources.

By centralizing payments through e-Citizen, the government hopes to improve service delivery while ensuring that all transactions are safe and traceable.

“The adoption of e-Citizen will not only make the payment process more secure but also more convenient for visitors,” KFS noted in its statement.

While the payment system is changing, all other activities within Karura Forest will remain unaffected.

Visitors can continue to enjoy the wide range of recreational services the forest offers, from walking and cycling trails to picnic sites, birdwatching, and guided tours.

KFS also reaffirmed that its partnership with the Community Forest Association (CFA) will remain intact, ensuring the continued protection and sustainable management of the forest.

The Service further encouraged the public to share feedback to help improve the visitor experience.

“We invite you to continue enjoying Karura Forest and welcome your feedback as we enhance our services,” the statement read.

The change underscores the government’s broader commitment to digitizing services, making them more accessible to citizens while strengthening accountability in revenue collection.
