KeNHA announces temporary traffic disruption at Globe Roundabout along Thika Superhighway

Motorists using the busy Thika Superhighway should prepare for temporary traffic changes after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced a partial closure at Globe Roundabout to allow repair works on the Nairobi River Bridge.

In a public notice dated March 12, 2026, the highways authority informed road users that the disruption will run from Thursday, March 12, to Thursday, March 19, 2026.

According to KeNHA, the temporary closure is necessary to facilitate reinstatement works at the bridge located near the roundabout.

“Thika Superhighway shall be partially closed at Globe Roundabout to enable the reinstatement works at the Nairobi River bridge,” the authority stated in the notice.

To manage the flow of vehicles during the construction period, KeNHA has outlined several traffic diversion routes for motorists approaching the area from different directions.

Traffic heading from Thika towards the Nairobi Central Business District will be redirected to use the Globe Overpass, while vehicles coming from Thika and heading towards University Way will be required to access Prof Wangari Maathai Road.

Motorists travelling from Thika and connecting to Kirinyaga Road or the OTC area have been advised to use Ring Road as an alternative route.

At the same time, vehicles coming from Kipande Road and heading to the CBD will be redirected through Limuru Road at Fig Tree before joining Prof Wangari Maathai Road.

KeNHA also announced that motorists travelling from University Way or the CBD and intending to make a U-turn at Globe Roundabout towards Guru Nanak will instead use the Guru Nanak U-turn point.

The authority noted that additional traffic control measures could be introduced depending on how the technical works progress.
