Kenya Golf Union elects new leadership pivotal AGM at Muthaiga Golf Club

The Kenya Golf Union (KGU) ushered in a new era of leadership during its Annual General Meeting held on May 30, 2025, at the Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi.

Chris Kinuthia of Thika Sports Club was elected as the new Chairman, succeeding David Ndung’u of Limuru Country Club, who had led the Union since May 2024.

This transition marks a significant moment for Kenyan golf, with Kinuthia pledging to focus on stronger club partnerships, grassroots development, and elevating the sport nationwide.

In his acceptance speech, Kinuthia emphasized the central role of golf clubs in nurturing the sport’s future. “Our clubs are the lifeblood of Kenyan golf.

They are where the game lives, breathes, and thrives. KGU must be a true partner—listening closely, supporting practically, and responding effectively to the needs of every club,” he stated.

Kinuthia outlined plans to enhance communication, provide legal support, improve staff efficiency, and expand talent identification and development across the country.

The new executive team brings together leaders from across Kenya’s golfing community. Brian Akun of Vet Lab Sports Club was elected Vice-Chairman, Jonathan Marucha of Kenya Railway Golf Club as Honorary Secretary, and Weldon Mutai of Sigona Golf Club as Honorary Treasurer.

Other executive members include James Gitonga (Mombasa Golf Club), Liban Roba (Karen Country Club), Peter Mwaura (Ruiru Sports Club), Robert Ngugi (Muthaiga Golf Club), Robert Obondy (Nakuru Golf Club), and Sam Kang’au (Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club).

Members also approved an increase in the annual club affiliation fee from KES 3,000 to KES 4,000, a move aimed at boosting the Union’s operational capacity and supporting key initiatives such as junior development, course rating, and technical training for officials and staff.
