Kenya Harlequin FC has announced the departure of Head Coach Paul Murunga, effective May 1, 2025, following a mutual agreement between both parties.
Murunga, who took over as head coach in May 2022, leaves behind a legacy of notable achievements, including leading the club to victories in the National 7s Circuit, Driftwood 7s, Ngong 7s, and the Mwamba Cup.
His contributions were recognized with the Kenya Harlequin Spirit of Rugby Shield at the 2023 annual club dinner.
In a statement, Murunga expressed pride in his tenure, saying, “It’s been a privilege to serve this great club. I am proud of what we have achieved.”
Club Chairman Victor Sudi praised Murunga’s impact, highlighting his “deep knowledge and passion” and noting his role in building a strong foundation and nurturing homegrown talent. Sudi added, “He will always be welcomed as a friend at Kenya Harlequin.”
Director of Rugby Joel Nganga echoed these sentiments, describing Murunga as a “winner” and crediting him with developing the squad and playing a key role in the club’s return to top-tier status.
As the club looks ahead to the 2024/2025 season, Kenya Harlequin has announced plans to conduct a full review of its management team structure, with further updates to be provided in due course.
Murunga’s departure marks the end of a successful chapter for Kenya Harlequin, as the club seeks to build on his legacy and continue its pursuit of rugby excellence.
For further information, the club has directed inquiries to Hon. Secretary Nekesa Were and Head of Communications Oliver Wafula.
