Kenya’s women’s rugby sevens teams are gearing up for action after acting Head Coach Simon Odongo unveiled the Kenya Lionesses and Cubs squads for the 27th edition of the Safari7s, set to take place from October 10–12, 2025, at Nyayo National Stadium.
The announcement marks a major step in the Kenya Rugby Union’s preparations for Africa’s premier rugby sevens tournament, where both the senior and development sides will represent the nation before a home crowd.
Coach Odongo highlighted the importance of balancing experience and emerging talent.
“Our aim is to create a strong balance within the playing group. The Lionesses bring invaluable experience, while the Cubs represent the next generation of talent. We believe both teams will compete fiercely and proudly represent Kenya on home soil,” Odongo said.

The Lionesses, led by captain Sheila Chajira and vice-captain Freshia Awino, feature seasoned internationals such as Janet Okello and Naomi Amuguni, alongside new faces Charity Nillah, Faith Achieng, and Marvel Laura Oswago, who will make their Safari7s debut.

Cubs squad
The Cubs, serving as the Lionesses’ development side, will be captained by Ann Njeri, with Maxine Abuga and Maureen Chebet as vice-captains. The team features nine debutants, reflecting Kenya Rugby Union’s commitment to nurturing upcoming talent and giving them exposure at an elite level.
