Kenya has made history by qualifying for the quarterfinals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 in its debut appearance. The Harambee Stars secured their spot with a game to spare after a strong performance in Group A.
Kenya’s journey began with a 1-0 victory over DR Congo. This was followed by a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Angola. In their third match, they stunned Morocco with a decisive 1-0 win, which moved them to the top of the group with 7 points.
The team’s qualification was confirmed by the results of other Group B matches. Morocco overcame Zambia, and DR Congo edged past Angola.
These outcomes left Morocco and DR Congo on six points each, while Zambia and Angola were officially eliminated.
Since Kenya has already beaten both Morocco and DR Congo in head-to-head matchups, the tournament’s tie-break rules guarantee their progression to the knockout stage.
The Harambee Stars’ final group match will be against Zambia on Sunday, August 17, 2025. The team will be aiming for a victory to secure first place in the group and maintain their unbeaten run heading into the quarterfinals.
