Kenya Meteorological: Christmas rains to run up to Xmas Eve

The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a five-day weather outlook warning of persistent rainfall across several regions as the country moves into the peak of the festive season.

The Kenya Met forecast, valid from December 20 to December 24, 2025, suggests that holiday travel and outdoor celebrations may be impacted by wet conditions and localized sessions of rain.

According to Kenya Met weather update, rainfall is expected to persist in the Highlands both east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Coastal, Northeastern, and Southeastern lowlands.

Additional to the rain, a wind warning has been issued for Marsabit County, where strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s) are expected.

Regional Forecasts in the South-Eastern lowlands

With inclusion of counties such as Machakos, Kitui, and Taita Taveta, residents should prepare for cloudy mornings accompanied with light rain weather.

Moreover, while sunny intervals will emerge, afternoon showers are expected daily, with thunderstorms predicted.

The Coastal region will remain characteristically warm, with temperatures peaking at 34°C.

However, the festive atmosphere will be punctuated by morning showers in several areas, with intermittent rain continuing through Christmas Eve.

Regional weather Forecasts in the North-Western and North-Eastern

Weather with extreme heat will remain a factor, with maximum temperatures hitting 37°C in Turkana, Samburu, and Garissa.

Despite the heat, Saturday is expected to bring significant afternoon thunderstorms.

While the North-Western areas will see more sun toward Monday, the North-Eastern counties will likely experience rain through Tuesday before conditions ease on Wednesday.
