Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale, on 12th September 2025, held high-level discussions with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) and the Kenya Coalition of Nutrition, led by Dr. David Miliband, to strengthen partnerships in eliminating malnutrition, a central pillar of the Taifa Care Model and Kenya’s healthcare transformation agenda.
The talks centered on innovative resource mobilization, including alternative financing, to reduce the national malnutrition rate, currently at 4% and reaching as high as 15% in arid and semi-arid regions.
The meeting also focused on enhancing the Community Health Strategy by scaling up the role of Community Health Promoters (CHPs) and optimizing the electronic Community Health Information System (eCHIS) for real-time data collection, better service delivery, and improved performance monitoring.

Participants committed to reviewing progress every six months to ensure the continuity of life-saving nutrition programmes.
They further pledged to co-invest in proven models that build resilient supply chains, strengthen health worker capacity, and foster greater data-sharing.
Emphasis was placed on a multi-sectoral approach to resource mobilization and accountability, placing nutrition at the core of Primary Healthcare and Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Hon. Duale reaffirmed that “nutrition remains central to Primary Healthcare and UHC, not only driving healthier communities but also contributing to stronger economic growth.”
The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni; Director-General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth; Mr. Gilbert Kamanga of World Vision; Ms. Janet Micheni of Action Against Hunger; and other senior officials from the Ministry of Health.
