First responders from the Kenya Red Cross have rescued at least 20 people who were stranded by floodwaters along Kirinyaga Road following heavy rains that have continued to pound Nairobi and surrounding areas.
In an update shared on its official X account, the humanitarian organization said its emergency teams swiftly responded to the situation and safely evacuated those trapped by the rising water levels.
“As part of the flood response in Nairobi, Kenya Red Cross first responders rescued 20 people stranded along Kirinyaga Road and moved them to safety,” the organization said.
The rescue operation comes as several parts of the capital experience flooding due to persistent rains that have disrupted transport and daily activities in parts of the city.
The Kenya Red Cross noted that response teams remain on the ground to monitor the situation and assist residents who may be affected by the flooding.
“Teams continue to monitor the situation and provide support to those affected,” the organization added.
Authorities have been urging residents to remain cautious, especially in flood-prone areas, as heavy rains continue to fall in parts of Kenya.
Emergency responders have also encouraged the public to report incidents and seek assistance through available rescue channels as efforts to manage the situation continue.
