Uganda’s 12 Sports Rounds Promotions has officially launched its operations in Kenya, promising to uplift boxing across East Africa.
The announcement was made on Monday during the launch of the ‘Hakuna Mchezo’ 12 Rounds event, which is set to take place on May 24, 2025, at Charter Hall.
Kenya’s heavyweight prospect Denzel Onyango, will return to the ring after his debut at the World Boxing Council (WBC) Grand Prix in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he faced Bosnia’s Alija.

The company’s legal officer, Joshua Sewankambo, expressed gratitude to the Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) for granting them a license to operate in Kenya. He revealed plans to host six events annually, with at least three of them happening in Nairobi due to its prime ranking among East and Central African cities.
“The idea is to promote boxing and have as many bouts both locally and internationally for Kenyan boxers just like we did with the Riyadh Boxing Series that is set to commence again this August. More boxers from Kenya will be tried and tested as we also aim to recruit youngsters from grassroots level countrywide,” Sewankambo stated.
The upcoming event will feature 11 non-title bouts, with Uganda contributing seven male and two female boxers. Kenya, Sweden, and Malawi will each be represented by one boxer.
The event is being led by Ugandan promoter Stephan Ssembuya under his company, 12 Sports Rounds Promotions. Faisal Ashinda is the official matchmaker and is finalizing the fight card, with four bouts already confirmed.
KPBC’s Deputy Secretary General Julius Odhiambo will serve as an inspector, while Stephen Gatonga will be the timekeeper and Morris Ndegwa the doctor for the event.
The collaboration marks a new chapter in regional boxing, aiming to boost talent and economic growth in the sport.
