The Kenya Simbas are gearing up for a pivotal 2025 Rugby Africa Cup semi-final against Zimbabwe, scheduled for Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
Head Coach Jerome Paarwaters has named the match-day squad as they aim to build on their strong start in the tournament.
In the quarter-finals, the Simbas delivered a composed and clinical performance, edging out their neighbors, the Uganda Cranes, with a score of 32-24. This victory showcased their determination and skill, setting the stage for an exciting semi-final clash.
The only change to the winning side from the quarter-finals is the return of Derrick Ashiundu, who replaces Timothy Omela on the right wing.
Griffin Chao, who has already scored two tries in the tournament, will continue on the left wing.
Both Kenya and Zimbabwe have lifted the Rugby Africa Cup twice; Kenya in 2011 and 2013, and Zimbabwe in 2012 and 2024.
Assistant Coach Carlos Katywa emphasized the team’s focus heading into the semi-final:
“We are taking each game as a final. The boys understand what’s at stake, and we’re fully locked in for this challenge,” Carlos stated.
The Kenya Simbas will be aiming to beat the Zimbabwe sables and secure their place in the final and complete their ultimate goal of qualifying for the 2027 Rugby World Cup by winning the 2025 Rugby Africa Cup.
