Kenyans will have a chance to witness one of nature’s most dazzling sights on Tuesday morning, October 7, 2025. A brilliant moon, appearing brighter and larger than usual, will light up the early morning sky.
Although the moon officially reaches its full phase at around 6:47 a.m. East Africa Time, skywatchers will be able to enjoy the view just before sunrise. In Nairobi, the moon is expected to set at about 5:25 a.m, offering the best view just before dawn.
A Supermoon happens when the full moon coincides with the point in its orbit where it is closest to Earth, which is known as the perigee. Due to this closeness, the moon will appear larger and brighter.
People have already expressed their excitement for the event. “Hunter’s Moon, The First Supermoon of 2025. Date: October 7, 2025. Get ready for a magical night sky! This year’s first Supermoon will rise as the traditional Hunter’s Moon,” reads a post on Facebook.
The Supermoon is referred to as the Hunter’s Moon because it was at the time the tribe of the Great Americas would gather meat for the long winter ahead.
The supermoon serves as a reminder of the splendor of nature that continues, almost silently, above our busy lives. So, set your alarm clock a little earlier tomorrow, step outside, and take a moment to enjoy the view.
