Kenya welcomes quad initiative on restoring peace in Sudan

The Government of Kenya has welcomed the Joint Statement issued by the Quad, comprising Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States of America, on their consultations aimed at restoring peace and security in Sudan.

In a statement on Monday September 15, 2025, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalai Mudavadi noted that the effort reflects Kenya’s shared commitment to dialogue and lasting peace in Sudan and the region.

Mudavadi emphasized that the Quad meeting is a positive initiative that should be embraced by all parties to the conflict in Sudan.

“The unprecedented crisis in Sudan calls for concerted and collective efforts, at the national, regional, and global levels, that can contribute to a peaceful resolution,” read part of Mudavadi’s statement.

In addition, he reaffirmed Kenya’s call for a unified and coordinated response from IGAD, the African Union, the United Nations, the Arab League, and the broader international community in support of Sudan.

According to Mudavadi, the Quad initiative align with Kenya’s consistent position on Sudan, particularly the conviction that there can be no military solution to the conflict.

“We emphasize the primacy of political solutions and continue to advocate for peaceful resolution of conflicts.”

The Prime CS noted that there is an urgent need to advance a negotiated settlement, with the active participation of both Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

“Kenya joins the Quad in urging all parties to the conflict, as well as external actors, to respect and uphold Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. Kenya firmly rejects any attempts to balkanize or split sovereign states, and reiterates its solid support for a unified Sudan for the benefit of its people,” read part of the statement.

Kenya also expressed grave concern over the role of extremist groups in fueling the crisis in Sudan and contributing to regional instability, reiterating its call for an end to external military support as a critical step toward resolving the conflict.

At the same time, Mudavadi stated that Kenya is committed to facilitating the delivery of humanitarian supplies through its territory to support the people of Sudan.

The Quad had called for an inclusive and transparent transition, free from control by any warring party. This process should reflect the diversity of Sudanese people, bringing together military groups, civilians, communities, political parties, and other stakeholders.

For sustainability, the talks must be Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned, with support from regional organizations.
