Lawrence Okoth Ouma has officially signed for SJK Seinäjoki, a top-tier Finnish club, becoming the latest Kenyan youngster to break into European football.
The 19-year-old striker joins directly from Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA), which plays in Kenya’s second division, the National Super League (NSL).
“It’s a dream come true. I want to make Kenya proud,” said Lawrence Ouma.
Ouma shot to prominence during the 2023 U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where he made history as Kenya’s first-ever goal scorer in the tournament, a key member of the Rising Stars squad and a consistent presence in attack, known for his strength and finishing.
His goal in Kenya’s debut match was not just a personal milestone, it was a national one.
“He’s a generational talent with the right mindset,” MOFA Coach, speaking after the AFCON U20.
MOFA, founded by Kenya’s national team captain Michael Olunga, has quickly grown into a key talent hub. Ouma’s move is a major achievement for both the player and the academy.
At 6’2”, Ouma brings physicality, composure, and movement that suits the European game.
What this move means
Ouma’s transfer marks a significant step for Kenyan youth football. It’s rare to see players move directly from the NSL to top-flight European leagues.
His journey is a win for MOFA, showing the value of homegrown development, young players aiming to follow in his footsteps and Kenyan football gaining international attention.
“We’re building the next generation. Ouma is just the beginning,” said Michael Olunga.
At SJK Seinäjoki, Ouma will join a club known for developing young talent and competing in the Finnish Veikkausliiga. It’s a league that has opened doors for many African players into bigger European markets.
