A Kenyan police officer, Benedict Kabiru died 6 months ago while in Haiti, and his body is still missing, his family has confirmed.
This was after senior police officers from Administration Police Service (APS) on September 24, 2025 visited the family of Benedict Kabiru and officially confirmed he died six months ago and his remains are still missing.
The incident came a day after President William Ruto mentioned Kabiru among Kenyan fallen officers in Haiti.
President Ruto was speaking during a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly summit in New York, USA.
According to Daniel Kabiru, the uncle to the late officer, senior officers visited their family in Thamanda, Kikuyu constituency where they disclosed the death of their loved one.
At the same time, the family members were directed to report at Jogoo House in Nairobi on September 25, 2025 in the morning for further details.
The family had filed a case in court seeking more information about Benedict Kabiru, who was missing.
Appearing before Justice Chacha Mwita, the Attorney General informed the court that more time was needed to verify President William Ruto’s recent statement, made during a high-level meeting on Haiti at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Representing the family, their lawyer requested time to file a supplementary affidavit to reflect the new developments in the case.
In the petition before the court, the family was seeking to uncover the truth surrounding Kabiru’s fate, alleging that key information had been withheld by officials from the Attorney General’s office.
The family’s legal team cited the President’s public statement, in which he named Kabiru as one of the officers who died in Haiti, as significant evidence in the case.
“If the President’s statement is accurate, then it effectively resolves the request for information, as confirmation has already been made at the highest level,” the court heard on Wednesday.
