Kenya is poised to make environmental history as Hillary Kiplagat Kibiwott from Elgeyo Marakwet county, a dedicated environmentalist, prepares to attempt the Guinness World Record for the most trees planted by an individual in 24 hours.
The current record is held by Antoine Moses of Canada, who planted 23,060 trees in a single day. Hillary’s goal is ambitious: to plant 24,000 trees in just 24 hours at Kessup Forest in Elgeyo Marakwet County, starting on 23 April 2026, 11:00 am and ends on 24 April 2026 11:00 am.
Hillary has prepared meticulously for this challenge. He has secured seedlings, mapped out the planting sites, and trained a small support team to ensure the process is smooth and efficient. According to him, the effort is not just about setting a record but also about promoting reforestation and environmental conservation.
Hillary draws inspiration from PS Treasury, Dr. Chris Kiptoo, a prominent advocate for conservation who is championing the protection of the Kaptagat Forest ecosystem. Hillary says Dr. Kiptoo’s work motivated him to take concrete action toward preserving Kenya’s forests and encouraging a culture of sustainability.
This record attempt aims to highlight the importance of tree planting, ecosystem preservation, and climate action. Hillary believes that with careful planning, determination, and community support, he can surpass the current record and put Kenya on the global map for environmental leadership
