Kenyan teams make solid showing at 2025 African Men’s Volleyball Club Championship

Kenyan volleyball clubs delivered commendable performances at the 2025 Men’s African Volleyball Club Championship, held in Misrata, Libya, as the continent’s top teams battled for supremacy.

The tournament concluded on April 30, with Libya’s Swehly Sports Club crowned champions after a thrilling final against Tunisia’s Espérance Sportive de Tunis.

Kenyan clubs General Service Unit (GSU) and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) finished 10th and 11th respectively, while Kenya Prisons Volleyball Club secured 18th place.

These results highlight Kenya’s growing presence in continental volleyball, though the competition remains fierce with North African and East African clubs dominating the top positions.

The championship featured 23 teams from across Africa, including powerhouses such as Al Ahly Sporting Club of Egypt, who finished third, and Rwanda’s Army Patriotique, who placed fourth.

Kenyan teams faced tough opponents throughout the tournament, gaining valuable experience that will be crucial for future continental campaigns.

GSU and KPA’s mid-table finishes demonstrate solid competitiveness but also underscore the need for further investment and development to challenge the traditional volleyball strongholds in Africa.

Kenya Prisons, despite finishing lower, contributed to the depth of Kenyan representation and gained exposure on the continental stage.

The tournament was praised for its high level of play and organization, with Swehly Sports Club’s victory marking a historic moment for Libyan volleyball.

The event also showcased the increasing popularity and development of volleyball across Africa.

As Kenyan volleyball continues to evolve, the experience gained at the 2025 African Club Championship will be instrumental in raising the country’s profile and competitiveness in future editions.

With continued support and development, Kenyan clubs aim to climb higher in the continental rankings in the coming years.
