Health Cabinet Secretary Adan Duale has revealed that by October 2025, Kenyans can expect to order ambulances through a new Uber-like app that will allow citizens to locate and call upon the nearest government ambulance for free emergency transport to hospitals in critical cases.

Speaking during an interview on July 9, 2025, Duale said the digital platform is developed under President William Ruto’s health reforms that aims to revolutionize emergency healthcare access across Kenya.

Duale claims that the app will operate like ride-hailing apps where citizens can use it to check the system, call the closest ambulance and get a free ride to the hospital paid for by taxpayers money.

“We are introducing a very good ambulance system where, by October, Kenyans will use it like the app of calling an Uber. You check in our system, the ambulance near you, you call it, it takes you to the hospital free of charge, paid by the people of Kenya,” he stated.

Duale also revealed that the service will be supported by the Emergency, Chronic and Critical Illness Fund, a government backed scheme that has already been budgeted for by the National Assembly.

The Health CS added that this initiative can be very helpful in cases where anyone suffering a medical emergency can receive immediate and free treatment instantly, a move that may ease financial burden on Kenyans that can’t afford private ambulance services.

“Today if you are walking the streets of Nairobi and you get a stroke, you will be picked up by any ambulance, you will be taken to any hospital, you will be treated free of charge, paid by the government, the government of William Ruto,” Duale added.
