A new report has named the best-performing governors, senators, and woman representatives in Kenya, providing a data-driven assessment of leadership accountability.
The 2025 Leadership Performance Index, a collaborative effort by PolItrack Africa and Swiss Poll, evaluated high ranking officials based on key metrics including service delivery, transparency, legislative work, and economic development.
The study, which surveyed citizens across all 47 counties, comes amid heightened public demand for tangible results from their leaders. Topping the list of governors is His Excellency Kimani Wamatangi of Kiambu County, who secured an impressive 66.6% approval rating.
Wamatangi’s top ranking reflects public satisfaction with his administration’s focus on tangible projects and effective execution of his mandate. He was followed by Narok County Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, who came in second with a 64.3% rating.
The senatorial category saw a surprise victory, with Kisumu County Senator Professor Tom Ojienda emerging as the country’s best, with a 67.4% approval rating. His high ranking is attributed to strong performance in legislative work and advocacy for his constituents.
Meru County’s Senator Kathuri Murungi and Nairobi County’s Edwin Sifuna rounded out the top three, with ratings of 65.1% and 64.7% respectively.
Among woman representatives, Laikipia County’s Honorable Jane Kagiri was crowned the top performer, earning a 67.8% approval rating—the highest overall score in the entire report.
Kagiri’s success was linked to her high visibility and effective constituent engagement. Nyeri’s Rahab Mukami came in second with a 66.3% rating, while Mandera’s Omhe Hasim took the third position with 64%.
The report provides a critical benchmark for public officials, moving beyond political rhetoric to focus on measurable outcomes.
The findings are expected to fuel discussions on governance and leadership effectiveness as citizens increasingly scrutinize the performance of their elected representatives.
For the leaders at the top of the list, the report serves as a strong endorsement of their work, while for others, it presents a clear challenge to improve their performance and regain public trust.
