Kenya’s Junior Golf team eyes World Cup Qualification at All-Africa Championship in Tunisia

Kenya’s junior golf team is currently participating in the All-Africa Junior Team Championship, which is taking place in Tunisia from April 24 to 27, 2025.

The Kenyan contingent consists of four boys—Junaid Manji, Nathan Mwangi, Tsevi Soni, and Justin Ngeera—and three girls—Belinda Wanjiru, Hazel Kuria, and Audrey Gachora.

They are among teams from 21 African countries competing at this prestigious event.

The All-Africa Junior Team Championship is a critical pathway for qualification to the 2025 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Japan.

Kenya’s team is aiming to improve on last year’s performance, where the girls finished 2nd and the boys finished 4th. A top finish this year would secure Kenya’s place at the World Cup.

South Africa remains the dominant force in the competition, with their boys’ team having won 17 consecutive titles and the girls’ team undefeated since the girls’ event began in 2017.

The Kenyan team, under the guidance of the Junior Golf Foundation and with support from the Ministry of Youth Affairs, has undergone intensive year-round training and includes players involved in the R&A High Performance Program.

Sports Principal Elijah Mwangi and JGF President Vincent Mukiri have both expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and potential, emphasizing the importance of this championship for the development of junior golf in Kenya and the opportunities it opens for young athletes—both in sport and academics.

The championship not only provides a platform for Kenyan juniors to showcase their talent against Africa’s best but also serves as a springboard for future international opportunities and scholarships.
