A Kenyatta University Bachelor of Commerce graduate has sparked national conversation after revealing that she earns up to Ksh 10,000 a day from selling vegetables, challenging common perceptions about success after university.
Scholastica, popularly known as Scholah, performed exceptionally well academically, scoring 409 marks in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and later attaining a B Plain in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
She went on to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Kenyatta University. Despite her strong academic background and repeated job applications, she was unable to secure formal employment after graduating.
Faced with unemployment, Scholastica chose to start a vegetable-selling business, commonly referred to as mama mboga, using an initial capital of about Ksh 3,000.
What began as a survival move gradually grew into a profitable venture. She now makes between Ksh 5,000 and Ksh 10,000 on a good day,.
“Right now, I make between Ksh 5,000 and Ksh 10,000,” she said this in an interview.

While at university, Scholastica explored modelling and worked at a cosmetics shop to support herself financially. Her life took a difficult turn in 2020 following the death of her grandmother, who had raised her, forcing her to balance studies and work to survive.
After graduation, she stepped away from modelling and fully embraced the vegetable business, approaching it creatively by sharing her daily work and experiences on TikTok.
Her content has attracted widespread attention and admiration, with many praising her resilience and willingness to earn an honest living.
Scholastica’s journey has reignited discussions on graduate unemployment in Kenya and inspired many young people to reconsider self-employment as a viable and dignified path to financial independence.
