Kakamega County Senator Boni Khalwale has publicly warned Deputy President Kithure Kindiki against interfering with Kakamega County politics.
Speaking on July 26, 2025 at a political rally, he ridiculed Kindiki’s comments made during a recent trip to Kakamega where the D.P stated that Governor Fernandes Barasa is likely to be re-elected in the 2027 general elections.
“Professor Kindiki, you came here and told our people that you have matured. A young man who found me in leadership. Matured enough to tell Kakamega who their governor will be in 2027? Kindiki, listen carefully. If you’ve failed to control Rigathi Gachagua in your own region, don’t think you’ll come here to decide who gets nominated or denied votes. I am your senior,” Khalwale proclaimed.
Khalwale also announced that he wants to run for governor in the 2027 elections under his new United Patriotic Movement (UPM) party.
“In 2027, Dr. Bonny Khalwale will be the governor of Kakamega,” he stated.
The Kakamega senator also spoke against National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, saying he was using empowerment programs in Bungoma and other places for political gain.
“You are the first Speaker in Kenya’s history who gets carried around by the President’s aide to attend empowerment events. That is not the work of a Speaker. A Speaker is supposed to be authoritative. Wetang’ula, your wife is the sister of Kenneth Marende’s wife. Learn from Marende and former Speaker ole Kaparo on how a Speaker should conduct himself,” he stated.
Khalwale also accused Wetang’ula of abandoning Bungoma by claiming that he was chased by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
“You are looking for votes for Barasa, yet you were chased out of Bungoma, and now you’re coming to Kakamega with the governor of Trans Nzoia, Natembeya. I’m telling you, you won’t set foot here,” he claimed.
In addition, Khalwale emphasized the importance of making education completely free from primary level all the way to university.
He also encouraged Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi to present a Cabinet memo in Parliament backing this proposal, assuring that MPs would support and pass it.
“There’s a lot of money in Kenya. Kenyans, do not allow your children to struggle to get an education,” he advised.
