Kiandutu family demands justice after Kin is severely burnt while detained at Thika Hospital

Thika Sub-County Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi has confirmed an incident, where a 35-year-old man identified as, Patrick Kinyanjui, reportedly sustained severe burns while being detained at Thika Level Five Hospital over an unpaid bill. Stating that investigations have already commenced.

Kinyanjui’s family which hails from Kiandutu slums, Thika, is seeking urgent justice for their kin.

According to the distraught family, Kinyanjui was admitted to the hospital a month ago for a surgical procedure, which they say was successful.

However, he was allegedly held at the facility because he couldn’t clear his medical bill.

Hospital sources indicate that Kinyanjui reportedly attempted to escape by climbing a fence when a hospital cleaner allegedly apprehended him.

In a tragic escalation, another staff member is accused of pouring an acidic substance on his body, causing severe burns from his neck down to his waist.

Kinyanjui’s family is now appealing to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to swiftly investigate the matter.

They are also demanding that the hospital take full responsibility for the actions of its staff and grant them full access to CCTV footage of the incident.

“How did he get burnt? He wasn’t admitted with burn injuries, that’s what we want to know,” a relative lamented, speaking to the press.
