Kibera edge Vihiga Queens to clinch 2025 FKF Women’s Cup title

Kibera Soccer Women etched their name into Kenyan football history on Saturday afternoon after clinching the 2025 FKF Women’s Cup with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Vihiga Queens at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

In a tense and tightly contested final, it was substitute Stella Adhiambo who emerged as the hero, scoring the match-winning goal deep into stoppage time. Adhiambo capitalized on a loose ball inside the box, slotting home from a precise Faith Mboya cross after Vihiga’s defense failed to clear their lines.

The goal not only sealed the match but also secured Kibera their maiden major trophy—an emotional milestone for a team that had battled past defending champions Ulinzi Starlets and league winners Kenya Police Bullets on their path to the final.

Kibera’s goalkeeper Vivian Shiyonzo was recognized for her outstanding performances throughout the tournament, walking away with the 2025 FKF Women’s Cup Golden Glove award. Meanwhile, Vihiga Queens’ Diana Cherono claimed the Golden Boot as the competition’s top scorer.

“It has been a tough game of chances and luck. We wanted to win the league, but we lost on our way and finished third, it was all down to the commitment of these players. Today we didn’t play as well as we had planned. I believe the luck was on our side, as our opponents had their chances too and happened that we emerged the victors,” Kibera headcoach David Vijago said after the win.

For their triumph, Kibera Soccer Women were awarded a cash prize of KSh 650,000 in a ceremony graced by FKF President Hussein Mohammed, who was among the dignitaries present at the final.
