Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has said the construction of Kidundu Stadium in Vihiga County, which has been a dream for many decades, is soon going to be a reality, and a new 10,000 seater stadium will hold Madaraka Day this year.
Speaking in a press conference after meeting with the tens of land owners, around the earmarked Kidundu, Mudavadi said there was a breakthrough after they agreed that they will relinquish the over 20 acres of land to ensure the start of construction in February.
Mudavadi said those who started the journey to have a stadium in Kidundu were no longer there but their hope and aspirations were now becoming a reality.
“This will stop being a dream but a reality. President Ruto had declared that in his term, he was keen to ensure Kidundu is a reality, now we are here to have it as a dream come true,” said Mudavadi.
Through the President, Mudavadi said they were working together to ensure that everything was put in place to make it happen.
Mudavadi assured the landowners that due process will be followed to ensure that every affected households will be compensated.
“The intention of the government is to ensure that every landowner is left in a comfortable place once they relinquish their God, and parents given land,” said the PCS.
Mudavadi said as part of honouring their respect and selflessness for ceding their land for a greater good, there names will be put in the hall of honour at the Stadium once completed.
“From February, under the instructions of President William Ruto, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will begin the construction which is expected to take four months to be completion,” said PCS.
Once completed, Mudavadi said, Kidundu Stadium will be in the national map as a stadium of its kind, offering the people of Vihiga an opportunity to have their sporting prowess, and bring pride to its people.
“Kidundu Stadium, is part of the number of huge projects being implemented by the Kenya Kwanza government including the Mudasa Affordable Housing Project, hostels, Kenya school of government, and markets including a big one in Mbale town, and several kilometres of roads in Vihiga County,” he said.
Mr. Duncan Kagesa, the chairman of Kidundu landowners, thanked the government for ensuring a conversation that has seen the households affected settled.
“Mudavadi has settled our matters, in the next one month the construction will start. We welcome the construction,” said Kagesa.
Kidundu Stadium landowners said they agreed with the government on a willing buyer willing seller basis.
“We were offered what we were comfortable with it. What is important is not money.”
Governor Ottichilo said that the efforts by President Ruto and Mudavadi has borne fruits on Kidundu Stadium.
“We are now ready to welcome those who are coming to construct to start as soon as this coming week,” said Governor Ottichilo.
Vihiga MP Ernest Ogesi said the future was bright and the reality of the Stadium was looking well.
“We have had serious engagement with the land owners and what they have done is a sacrifice,” said Kagesi.
Vihiga County Women Representative Beatrice Adagala said the construction of Kidundu Stadium was part of the journey towards Singapore.
“The Kidundu Stadium is now real, this is part of our nation’s quest to being a first world,” said Mrs. Adagala.
