Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro launches transformative education program for 12,000 students

Kiharu Constituency has unveiled an expanded version of its flagship Masomo Bora initiative for 2026, with Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro announcing a series of initiatives aimed at making quality education accessible and affordable for thousands of learners.

The program, launched on Tuesday 13th January 2026, will directly impact over 12,000 students enrolled in all the 65 day secondary schools across Kiharu.

At its core is a fee reduction that sets school fees at just Ksh. 500 per term for Senior Secondary School students, effective from the first term of 2026.

Addressing student welfare, the initiative guarantees daily lunch for all learners throughout the week, including Saturdays.

The nutrition plan features githeri three times weekly and rice on three other days, with porridge provided during morning breaks.

Students will also enjoy chapati every last Friday of the month, adding variety to their meals.

The Kiharu National Government Constituency Development Fund has committed Ksh. 10 million this financial year for revision materials, building on the 20 million shillings allocated in previous years.

Infrastructure development receives even stronger backing, with over Ksh. 50 million dedicated to new facilities, particularly science laboratories.

Students entering grade 10 at 20 schools identified as having low enrollment, as well as those at newly established institutions, will receive free school uniforms.

Each of the 65 schools will also receive an additional Ksh. 50,000 to fund co-curricular programs including music festivals, games, and other co-curricular activities.

The program allocates Ksh. 900,000 for prize-giving ceremonies, split equally between Murang’a East and Kahuro sub-counties. This is to reward the best performers without having parents pay for it.

In an innovative approach to motivating teachers, the most improved educator in each subject per sub-county will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to Mombasa.

School principals from the best performing and most improved schools in each of Kiharu’s six wards will earn fully paid trips to Dubai, with an alternative option to visit Malaysia.

The program caps fees for remedial classes at Ksh. 1,000 per term and prohibits all other payments and registration fees at participating institutions.

Insurance premiums and maintenance costs for school-owned buses will also be covered.

MP Nyoro confirmed that Masomo Bora benefits extend to all students in Kiharu’s day secondary schools, including learners from other regions of Kenya.
