Athletes from across the country converged at Kericho Teachers College for the Betika Cross Country Championships, showcasing endurance, determination, and Kenya’s rich running heritage.
The high-altitude event, which kicked off at 8 a.m. and concluded around 1 p.m., featured competitive 10-kilometre races in both the men’s and women’s categories.
Victor Kimosop from Central Rift clinched victory in the men’s race, while Caren Chebet triumphed in the women’s event.
The winners each pocketed KSh150,000, with the second- and third-place finishers earning KSh100,000 and KSh75,000 respectively.
In the Masters category for athletes aged 50 and above, Kenneth Mburu Mungara and Alice Chelangat Ngerech took top honours in the men’s and women’s races, receiving KSh30,000, KSh20,000, and KSh10,000 for the top three positions.

The mixed relay teams added excitement to the event, with the top three teams awarded KSh50,000, KSh30,000, and KSh20,000 respectively.
Beyond competition, the race provided a platform for both seasoned and emerging athletes many from modest backgrounds to display their talent and resilience.
The Betika Cross Country once again underscored Kericho’s reputation as a breeding ground for Kenya’s next generation of athletic champions.
