Kindiki pledges to empower Kenyans economically in honour of freedom fighters

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has pledged to honour  Kenya’s freedom fighters by driving economic freedom and uniting the country.

Speaking during Madaraka Day celebrations at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay on June 1, 2025, Kindiki said the current generation owes the one that fought for political freedom.

At the same time, Kindiki expressed his satisfaction with President William Ruto’s leadership, noting that the current administration is striving to repay the historic debt owed to Kenya’s founding heroes.

“This generation owes the generation that fought for the political freedom of Kenya the debt of fighting for the economic freedom of the country. As you lead us, I am satisfied we are on the course of paying the historic debt of our forefathers who fought for the freedom of Kenyans to govern their own,” he explained.

He assured Kenyans that the Kenya Kwanza government is working diligently to deliver economic freedom to all citizens.

Kindiki further explained that the government is investing heavily not only in strengthening traditional agricultural value chains but also in supporting fishing communities and maximizing the potential of blue economy resources.

“We are spending more money not only to strengthen value chains but also to support fisher folk and maximise our blue economy,” he said.

He commended the unity between President Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga, stating that their collaboration helps bridge divisions caused by politics, ethnicity, and religion.

“We look forward to your [President Ruto] partnership with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to build a more cohesive Kenya,” Kindiki noted.

The Deputy President also emphasized the importance of building an inclusive nation where a person’s background, ethnicity, or religion does not determine their role in national development.
