Kisumu County is mourning the death of Hon. Salmon Orimba, the County Executive Committee Member for Public Service, County Administration and Participatory Development. His passing marks the loss of a humble, dedicated, and principled leader who served with quiet distinction and deep commitment to the people of Kisumu.
Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o described Orimba as “a trusted colleague, a dependable partner in service and a dear friend.” He recalled inviting Orimba to his first administration and immediately recognizing in him “a rare blend of humility, discipline and quiet strength.”
Throughout his service — from Water and Environment, to Infrastructure and most recently Public Service and County Administration — Orimba embodied integrity and purpose. “He carried responsibility with grace. He never sought the spotlight, yet his work consistently spoke for itself,” the Governor said.
Deputy Governor Dr. Mathew Owili, in his message of condolence, said the county has lost “a dependable and visionary team player.”
He described Orimba as “steady, focused and unwavering in the execution of his mandate,” adding that his selfless leadership and humility will long be remembered. “Soft-spoken yet firm, he served the great people of Kisumu with integrity, clarity of purpose and quiet resolve,” Dr. Owili said.
Governor Nyong’o remembered Orimba’s calm and wise counsel during moments of tough decision-making. “He believed deeply in building strong institutions that work for ordinary citizens,” he said. “He was steady when challenges arose and generous in giving credit to others.”
Dr. Owili also paid tribute to Orimba’s early contribution as the pioneer CECM for Water and Environment, where he helped lay a strong institutional foundation for the county.
“He generously shared his intellect and experience, building partnerships that strengthened service delivery across departments,” he noted.
Together with Mama Kisumu, Mrs. Dorothy Nyong’o, the Governor extended heartfelt condolences to Orimba’s family, thanking them “for sharing him with us in public service.” Dr. Owili also assured the family of the county’s solidarity during this painful time, praying that “the Almighty grant you comfort, strength and fortitude.”
As Kisumu bows its head in grief, the county celebrates a life of purpose and impact. Orimba’s legacy of service, integrity and compassion will continue to guide the administration he helped shape. His quiet yet powerful contribution to Kisumu’s growth will be remembered for generations.
