Police in Kisumu have ramped up operations targeting the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs as part of continued efforts to protect public safety and tackle substance abuse in the region.
During a routine patrol within the city, officers stopped a public service vehicle and conducted a search, uncovering two sacks of bhang that had been hidden in the vehicle’s boot.
The seized consignment weighed approximately 90 kilograms and is suspected to have been in transit at the time of the interception.
One individual was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being held in police custody as authorities prepare to present the case in court.
The recovered narcotics have since been secured as exhibits to support the ongoing investigation.
The operation forms part of the National Police Service’s sustained efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and shield communities from the damaging effects of illicit drugs.
This comes after an earlier operation on Sunday, February 8, where NACADA dealt with a significant blow to drug trafficking networks in Machakos County.
This followed a coordinated multi-agency raid in Matuu Town, Yatta Sub-County.
The pre-dawn crackdown, conducted in the early hours of that morning, was spearheaded by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) in partnership with enforcement agencies as part of a nationwide push to suppress drug supply chains.
That Machakos operation itself followed closely on the heels of a NACADA-led crackdown in Naivasha the previous Saturday morning, where an associate of a known drug trafficker was arrested in possession of a large consignment of cannabis and is currently awaiting arraignment.
NACADA has reaffirmed that sustained multi-agency enforcement remains central to Kenya’s broader strategy of reducing both the demand and supply of illicit substances in the ongoing war against drug abuse.
