A police officer based at Kitengela Police Station has died under suspicious circumstances after allegedly being pushed from the fourth-floor balcony of an apartment building in a suspected love triangle involving another officer and a woman said to be romantically involved with both men.
According to a report at Kitengela Police Station the incident was reported Thursday night by a bodaboda rider Evans Barasa. Barasa had earlier dropped the deceased officer, Police Constable Manasseh Ithiru at Geoffrey Flats, an apartment complex located along Deliverance Road, approximately 3 km from the station.
Constable Ithiru, had visited his girlfriend, Irene Wavinya Nzioka, a tenant at the apartment block. According to preliminary investigations, while the two were inside the house, a second man, later identified as Sgt. Abubakar Said a police officer attached to Camp Athi River arrived at the apartment. He is also believed to have been in a relationship with the same woman.
Police reports indicate that a violent altercation ensued between the two officers. It is alleged that Sgt. Said overpowered Constable Ithiru and pushed him off the balcony of the fourth-floor unit. The officer landed in the parking lot below, where he died instantly.
DCI personnel from Kitengela visited the scene and found the lifeless body of Constable Ithiru lying in a pool of blood, in a supine position. The body had multiple injuries, including severe trauma to the head. It was later moved to Shalom Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected.
Sgt. Abubakar Said and Irene Wavinya Nzioka were both arrested at the scene and are currently in police custody assisting detectives with investigations.
The case is being handled by DCI Kitengela and has been classified as a murder investigation.
