The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) hosted a delegation from Edith Cowan University (ECU), Australia, for a strategic engagement aimed at fostering international collaboration in medical and health sciences training.
In attendance, were Dr. Tania Beament, Associate Dean for Strategic Partnerships and Work Integrated Learning, and Associate Professor Annette Koenders, Associate Dean for Medical and Exercise Sciences.
The theme of the meeting geared towards curriculum transformation, integration of emerging technologies in training, enhancement of teaching and research, and the development of frameworks to embed Artificial Intelligence (AI) in medical education
Furthermore the collaboration was to ensure KMTC’s academic programmes remain aligned with global trends, enhancing the institution’s competitiveness and relevance in the international health education space.
Speaking during the event, KMTC CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch highlighted the College’s dedication to building strong international relationships.
“We are happy to explore a partnership that not only improves academic quality but also encourages innovation in teaching and learning,” he said.
He added, “Setting up a joint working committee will help guide curriculum reviews, support joint research, and organize exchange programs that prepare our students for work in global healthcare.”
Dr. Oluoch also mentioned that such partnerships will help KMTC include digital skills, artificial intelligence (AI), and hands-on learning in its training. They will also create opportunities for students to continue their studies and gain international experience.
However, the planned partnership will also involve joint webinars, knowledge-sharing events, pre-departure briefings for students studying abroad, and staff exchange programs.
Hence the visit was an important step in KMTC’s goal to grow its international presence and improve the quality and variety of its academic programs.
In addition, Edith Cowan University, named after Australia’s first female member of parliament, is known worldwide for its high standards in health sciences education and research innovation.
