KNCHR sounds alarm over deadly Saba Saba demonstration: 31 dead, 107 injured

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) has raised alarm over widespread human rights violations witnessed during the Saba Saba demonstrations held on July 7, 2025.

In a press release issued on July 8, 2025, the Commission confirmed that at least 31 people lost their lives, 107 were injured, and 532 arrested in relation to the nationwide protests.

According to the KNCHR, there were also two enforced disappearances reported, with the full extent of property destruction still unknown.

The Commission reiterated its commitment to tracking and reporting these violations, noting the figures were accurate as of July 8 at 7:00 p.m.

“The KNCHR strongly condemns all Human Rights violations and urge accountability from all responsible parties,” the statement read.

The commission also emphasized that accountability must extend to police, civilians, and all other stakeholders involved.

While expressing sympathy for the affected families, the commission promised that justice will be served to the families who lost their loved ones.

“We once again send our message of condolence to those who lost their loved ones and wish a quick recovery to those nursing injuries.” It stated.

The Commission also urged the public to report any human rights concerns or incidents related to the protests.
